About

Studio Ekdahl is the furniture practice of designer–maker Carl Ekdahl.

The studio produces one-off commissions, made-to-order furniture and small batches of objects from the workshop, exploring proportion, material and quiet innovation in contemporary furniture.

Carl Ekdahl was born in Sweden and has lived and worked internationally, including a spell in Tokyo.

Before training as a cabinetmaker, Carl worked in the technology sector — an experience that continues to inform the studio’s approach to design, process and problem-solving.

He began training in fine furniture making in 2017 and established Studio Ekdahl in 2019, combining traditional craftsmanship with a contemporary design sensibility.

The studio’s work draws on Scandinavian restraint, careful proportion and an emphasis on material integrity. Pieces are developed through drawing, prototyping and making, with subtle innovation often emerging through the process of construction itself.

Today, Studio Ekdahl produces furniture and objects intended for everyday use — quietly expressive pieces made to endure.
